Import tariff

On 30 October 2015, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice no. 1027 increasing the import duty on sugar from 242.6 c/kg to 304 c/kg. The rates apply to all countries, including member states of the EU, EFTA, and SADC.

The affected tariff subheadings are:
1701.12 2 - - Beet sugar
1701.13 9 - - Cane sugar
1701.14 5 - - Other cane sugar
1701.91 2 - - Containing added flavouring or colouring matter
1701.99 3 - - Other

Affected trading partners
The GTA retrieves its data on affected trading partners from UN Comtrade. However, for the year 2008, the database was not available to provide the affected trading partners for Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland.
 
Update
On 18 December 2015 the import tariff was decreased to 245.4/kg (approx. USD 0.16 per kg), see related measure.
