On 31 March 2011, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry removed license restrictions on exports of cotton yarn.
The requirement to have a license was imposed on 22 December 2010. This requirement has been removed and such exports are allowed to all exporters provided prior registration of contracts is done with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
