ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 14 August 2009, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) issued Notice no. 835 reducing the customs duties of basic chemicals and primary polymers classifiable under HS 25, 28, 29, 32, 34, 38 and 39. Some tariffs were reduced and some others were exempted from the customs duty altogether.
The changes were based on recommendations contained in South Africa's National Industrial Policy Framework (NIPF) in order to improve the export performance of downstream added value products.

The GTA retrieves its data on affected trading partners from UN Comtrade. However, for the year 2008, the database was not able to provide the affected trading partners for Botswana, Swaziland, and Lesotho.
