ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
On 14th August 2014,the government of Panama agreed with its counterpart in Guyana an arrangement in which the latter can ship up to 5,000 tonnes of rice per month through to the end of 2014. Furthermore, it is specified that this agreement might be subjectto renewal after its official expiry date. However, to date no suchinformation has been published.
According to press reports, Panama imports 150,000 tonnes of rice per year. In principle, this government-to-government initiative reduces the access to the Panamanian market for non-Guyana producers of rice.
