On 13 December 2011, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade issued regulation 41/M-DAG/PER/12/2011 on import restrictions for sodium tripolyphosphate. The regulation requires the importers to obtain a permission from the Director General for Foreign Trade at the Ministry. The Director shall only permit as much imports of sodium tripolyphosphate as are needed by the industry (art. 3 of regulation 41/M-DAG/PER/12/2011). After obtaining the permission, the license will be valid for 1 year and may be renewed. Even then, the importer of sodium tripolyphosphate will have to report every quarter the amount imported into the country.
Furthermore, the chemical may only be used for production purposes and not traded within Indonesia.
The regulation came into force on 15 February 2015. It was revoked by regulation 77/M-DAG/PER/9/2015 on 28 September 2015. The anullment was part of the reform package announced by the Indonesian president on 9 September 2015 (cf. Related Measures).
