Local sourcing

On 3 February 2013, Slovakia amended its Act on Foodstuffs, requiring businesses with a turnover of more than 10 million EUR to inform the Ministry of Agriculture twice a year the share of locally produced foods sold in their stores (each time the five biggest contributor countries). Based on this information, the Ministry will compute a list of the shares of locally produced goods by each supermarket chain.
This list will have to be then published at each supermarket's entrance and website.
The amendment came into force on 1 April 2013.
Although this measure does not specify a minimum level of local content, the measure may well encourage firms to source more products locally.
