In 2012 the Texas Comptroller extended an incentives package to Amazon.com through the forgiveness of a $269 million assessment that had been made for uncollected sales taxes from 2005 to 2009. In exchange, Amazon agreed to invest $200 million in various new facilities in the state and create 2,500 jobs. 
The GTA includes state guarantees and other financial incentives thatare likely to affect the restructuring and performance of firms facinginternational competition, whether from imports, in export markets, andfrom foreign subsidiaries.
