Sanitary and phytosanitary measure

On 3 April 2012, the Indonesian Ministry of Justice enacted a new regulation by the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (hereinafter: BPOM) concerning the safety procedures on transgenic products. With the new regulation HK.03.1.23.03.12.1563, importers will no longer have to send food safety assessment applications to the specific ministries concerned with their products.

Instead, all importers and local producers will now be required to submit a single application to the Head of the BPOM. The BPOM will be also solely responsible for the safety assessment.

The regulation came into force on the day of the enactment.
