On 14 June 2013, the government of Panama introduced restrictions for foreign-owned vessels in the maritime transport sector. The regulation, known as Law 41, stipulates that 90 per cent of the crew in such vessels must be of Panamian nationality and that Panamian nationals must own at least 75 per cent of the operating company.
