ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
Labour market access
On 1 January 2014, Germany increased the minimum salary requirements for the Blue Card program. The Blue Card program was established to regulate inflow of high skilled foreign workers.
From 1 January, the minimum gross salary increased from EUR 46,400 per year to EUR 47,600 per year. If a company wants to hire a foreign worker on a lower salary, it must seek the approval of local labor authorities. Consequently this measure is considered to complicate the hiring process for firms in Germany that are in a need of high skilled foreign employment.
The list of affected countries is extrected from the ILO migration database. Inflow of migrants above 5000 people per year is considered to be an affected nationality. EU nationals are excluded from the list.
