On 1 June 2013, the Modern Immigration Policy Act entered into force. The act is expected to improve the efficiency and turnaround time of Dutch immigration procedures. For example, it will be possible for immigrants that apply for a provisional residence permit to follow a single procedure instead of separate procedures. In addition, regular residence permits will be issued for longer periods which implies a reduction of renewal procedures. It will also become easier to move to a different educational institution because the issuance of a new residence permit will not be necessary.
