ANNOUNCED AS TEMPORARYNo
Labour market access
Effective 29 May 2013, new rules (see source) apply for the issuance of visas, as well as for the prolongation or reduction of their validity. For the first time, the rules introduce immigration and non-immigration categories into the visa system of the Republic of Kazakhstan. A detailed break-down with definitions, subcategories, periods of validiry and an illustrative example for the differences in validity of both visa types can be retrieved in English here. An important newly-introduced requirement is that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of RoK examines the political and economic situation in the home country of the visa applicant upon taking decisions for the category, period of validity and multiplicity of the visa. This rule implies decision-making on a case-by-case basis, taking subjective factors such as nationality. In addition, at its own discretion, MFA can send the visa documents to the National Security Committee of the RoK for further analysis.
The new rules are expected to mark a tendency towards a decrease in the number of foreign nationals involved in business activities.
