On 12 March 2012, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Finance in Mongolia to support the activities of Japanese SMEs.
The JBIC reported that with this MOU it 'seeks to strengthen institutional arrangements to support Japanese firms for doing business in such areas as mineral resource development in Mongolia'.

The JBIC is a public financial institution and export credit agency created on 1 October 1999 through the merger of the Japan Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund.
