Public procurement localisation
On 11 April 2012, the Australian government adopted amendments to the Enhanced Project By-law Scheme (EPBS) which creates additional administrative and compliance hurdles for EPBS project applicants, effective as of 1 July 2012. The EBPS allows the importation of equipment for capital (investment) projects above AUD 10 million free of import duties. This complex scheme has as one goal creating commercial opportunities for Australian firms without necessarily creating formal, explicit discrimination against foreign suppliers.
