On 5 January 2012, Argentina's Federal Tax Authority (Agencia Federal de Ingresos Público) AFIP adopted Resolution No. 3252 of 2012 in conjunction with Resolutions No. 3255 and 3256, creating an additional import requirement, namely the Sworn Affidavit of Intention to Import (Declaración Jurada Anticipada de Importación) DJAI, effective as of 1 February 2012. The new resolution requires importers to file a DJAI prior to the issuance of the purchase order to the foreign supplier. The information contained in the DJAI will be available to different governmental organisations involved in international trade matters, which will be required to express their comments or approval on each DJAI. It is important to state that the DJAI requirement comes in addition to actual import declarations to be subsequently filed by the importers.
