On 28 November 2008, the Youth Mobility Scheme (Tier 5 visa) was implemented in the UK. The scheme allows young (18 to 31 years old) citizens of selected overseas countries to obtain British work and travel visa with much easier procedures. The visa is valid for up to 2 years. The Youth mobility scheme is a two-way system permitting British to go to the selected overseas countries as well. At the time of announcement citizens of the following countries were accepted:
On 23 December 2011, the Youth mobility scheme was extended to accept young people from Taiwan (1'000 places).
On 6 August 2012, the Youth mobility scheme started accepting applicants from South Korea (1'000 places).
