Labour market access
On 24 December 2010, the government of the Republic of Korea has announced its Foreign Workforce Introduction Plan for 2011. According to this plan, the overall quota for foreign workers immigrating to South Korea will be raised from 34'000 in 2010 to 48'000 in 2011.
A substantial share in the quota increase is due to 12'000 extra visas to be granted for construction workers. Furthermore, agricultural sectors saw their combined visa quota increase from 4'200 to 5'200 visas.
As a final change, construction waste disposal and salt extraction industries have been included as sectors eligible for the recruitment of foreign workers.
