On 13 September 2011, the government of Brazil lifted the foreign ownership cap for cable operators (telecom). Prior to the change, foreigners were not allowed to command a share exceeding 49 percent in a given company.
The law also broadens the services cable operators may provide to package deals including combinations of broadband services (telephone, internet, TV).
