Bailout (capital injection or equity participation)

On 3 November 2010 the Cypriot authorities contacted the European Commission regarding their intention to grant state aid for restructuring to the Central Slaughterhouse of Kofinos.

Central Slaughterhouse of Kofinos is a state-owned public utility company and was established in 1981. Nowadays it has a market share of approximately 30.7 in the Cypriot market.

On 20 January 2011 the Commission received a complaint from a competitor.

"The complaint argues that a number of illegal aids have been granted to CSK throughout the years, and most notably after Cyprus' accession to the EU. These allegations need to be further investigated, together with some information of the restructuring plan."
