On 8 May 2022, the U.S. Administration announced that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the United States will suspend general licenses for exports of source material, special nuclear material, byproduct material, and deuterium to Russia.
The decision is taken in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the United States is an independent agency created by the U.S. Congress with the purpose of ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials for beneficial civilian purposes. The NRC regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials through licensing, inspection and enforcement of its requirements.
