Export ban

On 10 May 2022, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement (hereafter, 'Announcement') that it was increasing the scope of sanctions against Russian entities in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine on 24 February of the same year. The Announcement added 71 'organisations' to the list of those subject to export bans, with immediate effect.

Specifically, the Announcement stated that 'a ban is implemented on exports etc. to the 71 stipulated groups'. The Announcement also added 131 individuals from Russia and the self-proclaimed 'republics' in eastern Ukraine to the list of individuals subjected to an asset freeze, however this is not recorded in the taxonomy as it is not commercial in scope.

The Announcement also stated that an export ban was to be introduced, however implementation details from either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry were not provided.
