The Thai government started the rice pledging scheme during the harvesting season of 2011/2012, that is, state purchase of Thai rice above market prices. The scheme was approved again in October 2012 for the 2012-13 crop season.

On 12 October 2012 , the Malaysian government decided to decrease the CPO (crude palm oil) export tax from 23% to 4.5% - 8.5%. This is mainly a reaction to the Indonesian export tax reduction in 2011.

On 25 August 2011, Indonesia decided to lower the export tax on palm oil. The maximum export tax will decrease from 25% to 22.5% and even 13% in the case of refined palm products. This measure came into force on 1 October 2011.
