Import tariff

The rebate was introduced on 29 December 2017. The products subject to the full rebate on import tariffs are certain structural steel in the form of H and I sections, classified under HS code subheading 7228.70. The import tariff subject to full rebate is 10%, whilst it is 0% for countries members of the EU, EFTA and SADC.

The rebate facility will notably be subject to import control and a rebate permit, which will be subject to certain rules and guidelines stipulated by the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC). The intervention was announced as a temporary rebate, however, no removal date was stipulated.
