Singapore: Skills Programme for Upgrading and Resilience

Measure #1150 | Published 9 Feb 2010 ▲

Description

On 3 May 2009, Singapore's Ministry of Manpower announced the launch of the SPUR-JOBS initiative. Under the Skills Programme for Upgrading and Resilience (SPUR), Singapore's government provides a series of measures to increase training and (re-)employment of the local work force since the beginning of 2009.

As one of the core elements within the SPUR, the SPUR-JOBS initiative raises incentives to employ local staff. Under the scheme, the government offers a grant of S$ 5'000 per Singaporean national or permanent resident recruited or retained. The SPUR-JOBS programme is to last for 24 months. The maximum amount of grants per company is set at S$ 400'000.
