Singapore: Increased mandatory medical insurance for foreign employees

Description

On 25 September 2009, the Ministry of Manpower announced an increase in the mandatory medical insurance companies have to provide for foreign employees.
 
From 1 January 2010, companies have to insure holders of foreign work permits against medical costs up to S$ 15'000. It is the first raise of minimum insurance coverage for foreign employees since the requirement was introduced in 2008. Prior to the new regulation, companies were required to insure their foreign employees with a minimum coverage of S$ 5'000.
