EC: Reclassification of DMB mobile phones for tariff purposes.
Description
The European Communities has effectively removed the 14% tariff on digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) phones by recategorising them as multi-functional mobile devices. Since 2007 the products have fallen under the TV sets category resulting in a higher level of tariff. As multi-functional mobile phones, the products will only be subject to 3.7% tariff.
The Government of South Korea and local manufacturers asked the European Commission to review its evaluation last November. Customs tariffs of approximately US$12.2 m will be returned to Korean exporters, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics .
