Brazil: tariff increase on refractory bricks, valves for oleohydraulic or pneumatic transmissions and parts of the electric appliances
Description
On September 22nd, 2009, the Brazilian government announced a tariff increase from 2% to 10% for refractory bricks and from 0% to 14% for valves for oleohydraulic or pneumatic transmissions and parts of the electric appliances classified under the items 6902.20.92, 8481.20.11 and 8510.90.20 of the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM) tariff code.
The potential affected jurisdictions have been identified as the top five countries from which Brazil imports the 8 digit-products codes in 2008 which in the case of the product 6902.20.92 accounted for 99% of Brazilian imports (Aliceweb/MDIC). In the case of the products 8481.20.11 and 8510.90.20 there were no Brazilian imports in 2008 (Aliceweb/MDIC).
It is important to note that the average bound tariff of the products 6902.20 and 8510.90 is 35% and of the product 8481.20 is 31%.
