Brazil: Agreement to limit car imports from Mexico
Description
On 15 March 2012, the governments of Brazil and Mexico agreed to limit the value of Mexican car exports to the Brazilian market. Under the agreement, Mexican car exports to Brazil may not exceed designated annual thresholds for the next three years.
These thresholds are:
- 19 March 2012 - 18 March 2013: USD 1.45 billion
- 19 March 2013 - 18 March 2014: USD 1.56 billion
- 19 March 2014 - 18 March 2015: USD 1.64 billion
In 2011, Mexican car manufacturers had export vehicles worth USD 2 billion to Brazil.
