Australia: Subnational government revises "Local Jobs First" programme
Description
On 16 June 2009 the Government of New South Wales provided details of a new "Local Jobs First" programme, to be part of the government's stimulus package. A public announcement concerning this programme noted that the Government and associated state-owned enterprises spent A$3.9 billion per annum. The announcement stated, amongst other observations, that "Previously, the price preference only applied to businesses with up to 200 workers, but that has now been extended to businesses with up to 500 employees. Where no Free Trade Agreement applies, the price preference will be applied to all businesses regardless of size." The price preference for locally produced goods is 20 percent. Other changes to the evaluation criteria for bids were made.
