About Alerts

Global trade alert offers two kinds of alerts: RSS alerts and Email alerts.

RSS Alerts.

What is an RSS Feed?
An RSS feed is a way for you to get a quick list of the latest story headlines from all your favourite websites and blogs all in one place. Subscribing to an RSS Feed allows you to be notified when a website changes without actually visiting the website itself.

How do I use an RSS Feed?
To read and manage all your RSS feeds you need an RSS reader. Just like email, there are online services and offline programs available. One of the quickest and easiest services available is Google Reader.

How do I subscribe to RSS Feeds from Global Trade Alert?
Anywhere you see this icon () on the site, there is an RSS Feed Available. Clicking on the icon will give you the link or URL for the particular feed. Just copy the Web "address" or URL of that page and paste it into your News Reader. You will then need to follow the instructions for your News Reader software to add the RSS feed to your RSS list. You should look for an option to "Add Feed" or "Add Subscription".

You can generate your own RSS feed by using our RSS Feed Generator.

What feeds are available?
Global Trade Alert offers literally millions of feeds: every combination of implementing country, affected country, sector and tariff line is available as feed. To access these, use the quick search block on the left to set your critera, click ‘search’, at the bottom of the results page you will see the RSS icon which is linked to the feed.

Email Alerts

How do Email Alerts work?
You can receive email notifications any time there is new content added to a specific category or to an individual measure. For example, you could get an email notification every time a measure that affects Brazil is posted.

How do I receive alerts?
Firstly, email alerts are only available to registered users, so if you haven’t already, you need to register with the site. When you are viewing a measure, on the left hand side of the screen you will see the Alerts block. This will list all categories associated with the measure. Clicking on these categories will subscribe you to the alert.

You can also subscribe to any alert by visiting our Email Alert Generator.

How many emails will I receive?
By default all updates are consolidated into a daily, digest email. This can be changed in the settings section under ‘alerts’ on the user page.

Can I cancel the alerts?
You can cancel at any time by following the link at the bottom of the alert email. Or on the alerts section of your user page.

Why am I not receiving my alerts?
This could be for a number of reason, most likely:
1) There is a delay of a couple of hours between updates taking place and notifications being sent.
2) The alerts may be classed as ‘spam’. To avoid this, add the site email address (gta@globaltradealert.org) to your address book.
